French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that the “peace plan” put forward by the United States to end the war between Ukraine and Russia is a good basis for work, but it needs to be revised with the involvement of Europeans, UATV English reports.

Reuters reports this.

“A peace plan has emerged that includes ideas that are quite familiar, whether they’ve been made public or not. It is good in that it proposes peace and recognizes important elements regarding sovereignty and security guarantees,” he told journalists at the G20 meeting in South Africa.

“But it is a basis for work that needs to be revised, as we did last summer, because this plan was, above all, not agreed with the Europeans,” he said.

“But it contains many elements that concern Europeans. The frozen assets are held by Europeans. Ukraine’s European integration is in the hands of Europeans. Knowledge of what NATO is doing lies with NATO members. So there are many things that cannot simply be an American proposal; they require broader consultations,” Macron added.

Leaders of European states and EU institutions, as well as the G7 countries (excluding the US), have expressed disagreement with parts of the US-proposed “peace plan” for Ukraine.

However, they agreed to take the project as a basis and expressed readiness to refine it jointly.

According to Bild, the Europeans want to change at least four points in the proposed draft.

As reported earlier, Polish President Karol Nawrocki said that any planning for peace agreements must take into account that Russia does not honor its commitments, and that Ukraine must have a decisive voice in negotiations.
