French President Emmanuel Macron said that one of the key objectives of the G7 Summit in Évian, which begins today, should be to increase pressure on Russia over its attacks on Ukrainian civilians, UATV English reports.
Speaking to TF1, Macron stated:
“This is one of the objectives of the G7. Civilians are being subjected to unacceptable attacks by Russia. We must increase pressure on Russia.”
According to the French president, he will discuss the war in Ukraine with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the summit.
Commenting on the U.S. position, Macron said that Washington remains an ally of Ukraine, although the United States had previously believed it might be possible to end the war quickly. He emphasized, however, that the U.S. continues to provide Ukraine with weapons and intelligence support.
As previously reported, the G7 Summit opened on June 15 in Évian-les-Bains, France. A key Ukraine-related event will be a working session on Tuesday involving President Zelenskyy focused on peace and security for Ukraine and Europe.
