The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will send a review mission to Kyiv in the coming weeks that will determine Ukraine’s readiness to receive the second tranche of a loan under the current program and will discuss its economic policy for the remainder of the year under the incoming administration.
IMF Communications Department Director Gerry Rice said that IMF leadership has been in constant contact with Kyiv during the presidential transition period, Ukrinform reported.
“I can confirm that the Managing Director, in fact, has been in touch with Mr. Zelenskyi on his election as president of Ukraine,” he said.
Rice said that IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde had been in touch with outgoing President Petro Poroshenko, thanking him for close cooperation during his presidency and expressing the hope and the expectation that progress under the economic program would continue.
“[Lagarde] underscored that the IMF continues to stand ready to support Ukraine and to help it meet the challenges that lie ahead,” Rice said.
