Hungary Elections on International Broadcasting Platforms: Over 3 Million YouTube Views, High Facebook Interest, Minsk, Moscow and Riga Among Top Cities

Ukrainian international broadcasting channels FREEДОМ, UATV.English, UATV.Español, UATV.Português, UATV.Arabic, UATV.Deutsch, UATV.Türkçe, UATV po polsku, and The Gaze widely covered the parliamentary elections in Hungary on air and across digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok. Viewers saw a series of thematic reports, studio discussions, and live broadcasts from the country’s capital. In total, across all digital platforms of the state enterprise “The International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine” (YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Telegram, X), video content generated 4.45 million metrics*, including: YouTube — 3 million views, Facebook — 1.1 million reach, and more than 300 thousand views on TikTok.

FREEДОМ’s special correspondent in Europe, Vitalii Sizov, covered the final stage of the election campaign, the voting process, the first results of the Hungarian vote, and reactions from society and politicians through special reports and live broadcasts from Budapest. The greatest audience attention on FREEДОМ’s YouTube was drawn to operational summarizing of election results, information about record voter turnout, and the leadership of the opposition party “Tisza.”

An evening live broadcast by Vitalii Sizov from the square in front of the Hungarian Parliament gathered 267 thousand views, with 77.3% coming from an international audience: users from Russia — 19.9%, Belarus — 8.4%, Germany — 7.3%. Among the top cities were Moscow, Minsk, Saint Petersburg, and Riga. High viewer interest was also recorded in content about Péter Magyar’s preparations to form a government and take over responsibilities from the ruling party if a majority is confirmed. This content received 210 thousand views, with 80.8% from abroad: Russia — 18.1%, Germany — 7.1%, Belarus — 5.6%, and Kazakhstan — 4.9%. Leading cities included Moscow, Minsk, Tashkent, and Riga.

International broadcasting audiences closely followed candidates’ speeches. In particular, a fragment of the election winner Péter Magyar’s address to supporters — where he stated that Hungarians had said “yes” to Europe and a free Hungary — received 158 thousand views. The majority of the audience was international (85.3%): viewers from Russia — 17.2%, Uzbekistan — 8.4%, Germany — 7.9%, and Kazakhstan — 6.3%. The highest number of views came from Moscow, Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bishkek.

In the FREEДОМ studio, experts discussed the results of Hungary’s parliamentary elections, focusing on their impact on Ukraine, future challenges for the new government, and potential political risks. Analyst Marianna Prysiazhniuk from the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation explained how a change in Hungary’s ruling party could affect rhetoric and narratives regarding Ukraine. Managing partner of PGR Consulting Group LLC Ruslan Rokhov outlined potential difficulties for the new government, while political обозреватель Illia Butenko highlighted risks associated with the victory of the “Tisza” party and the possible opposition role of Viktor Orbán toward the new authorities.

Content about Hungary’s parliamentary elections on FREEДОМ’s Facebook pages reached 1.1 million users, including more than 300 thousand video views. Among the videos, the highest interest was generated by reports on the start of voting by FREEДОМ’s special correspondent.

On TikTok, the most viewed content — 141 thousand views — was a news segment about Péter Magyar’s plans to make Hungary once again a strong partner in the EU and NATO. Of these, 75.5% were from international audiences: Belarus — 24.5%, Kazakhstan — 13.6%, Moldova — 7.8%, Germany — 3.4%. Overall, thematic content on FREEДОМ’s TikTok generated more than 300 thousand views.

The international broadcasting team also conducted a series of thematic polls on air and within YouTube channel communities, including on what the victory of the “Tisza” party led by Péter Magyar means for Ukraine and Europe.
