German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany is joining the PURL mechanism for the fourth time, through which the purchase of American weapons and ammunition is financed.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Brussels ahead of the meeting of NATO defense ministers, UATV English reports.

According to him, Germany will allocate funding for “necessary ammunition for air defense systems.”

“In this way, we are literally saving human lives every night and every day. This time, we are allocating $200 million,” Pistorius said.

In addition, he noted that Germany will support the Jumpstart program, which provides for the procurement of missiles for Patriot systems.

“Through this program, guided missiles for Patriot systems are to be purchased. We have also agreed to participate by allocating $200 million for the procurement of PAC-3 guided missiles. So, we are moving forward,” the German defense minister emphasized.

Pistorius added that Berlin is calling on other members of the Contact Group to join the financing of PAC-3 missile purchases in order to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

It is worth noting that earlier, leaders of the G7 countries stated their readiness to consider granting licenses for the production of interceptor missiles directly in Ukraine.

It was also previously reported that the government of Netherlands has committed to purchasing drones and air defense equipment for Ukraine worth a total of €500 million, with half of that funding to be provided through the PURL program.
