Psychologist Alexander worked with people during the three Israeli-Palestinian wars. He is sure that during a constant threat, parents should explain to the child that war goes on, even if there is no shelling in their city.

Alexander Gershanov, Psychologist

A parent can say, you know, we have such neighbors who are very aggressive; they don’t like that we live peacefully here and build something. They now have such governors who want to shoot at us. And so we must be ready.

It is necessary to talk about actions during the shelling in the form of a game and associations.

Alexander Gershanov, Psychologist

You need to talk about it, but don’t be afraid. Look, when it rains, we have an umbrella or we put on boots. That’s when the siren suddenly rings out, then we’ll go to shelter there.

Anna also lives in Israel. A year ago, she survived one of the worst shelling in the history of the country. Today each apartment there has the essential kit: water, comfortable shoes and folding chairs. Children are taught the correct behaviour during air raid alerts.

In schools, they are trained twice a year on how to behave in case of air raid alert. They are taken to a bomb shelter, told how to behave, how to keep order, they have a class schedule.

In addition, modern Israeli skyscrapers are already being built with bomb shelters. Each apartment has an armored room where you can wait out the shelling. And everywhere there are bomb shelters where you can hide at any time.
