The launch of the first negotiation cluster in Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union represents recognition of the country’s resilience and confirms the irreversible nature of its European course, according to Kyrylo Budanov, UATV English reports.
In a statement published on Telegram, Budanov described the decision as a historic step not only for Ukraine’s political future but also for the broader security architecture of Europe.
“The opening of the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine and Moldova is recognition of our resilience and the irreversibility of our European choice,” he said.
According to Budanov, the move goes beyond the formal accession process and reflects the creation of a wider European space based on shared security, democratic values, and common interests.
“We are beginning work on the foundation of our European life. This is about justice, freedom, and fundamental rights—the principles that will make us part of a united, strong, and secure European community,” he stated.
Budanov emphasized that European integration is not only a political project but also an economic one. He noted that the European Union’s economic strength is built on close cooperation among its member states and that deeper integration strengthens both shared interests and continental unity.
He argued that Ukraine has already demonstrated its determination and ability to defend its independence and is now proving its readiness to integrate into a system founded on democratic values, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.
At the same time, Budanov acknowledged that the path toward full membership will be complex and demanding.
According to him, the negotiation process will require substantial reforms, institutional transformation, and careful protection of Ukraine’s national interests throughout every stage of accession.
“The road ahead will involve difficult negotiations. It requires both internal changes and the ability to defend our national interests. But we must complete this journey in order to become stronger and take our place as full members of the European community,” he said.
Budanov also stressed that Ukraine’s future is being shaped not only by military successes but by strategic political decisions that influence the country’s long-term development.
“Victory is forged not only on the battlefield but also through systemic decisions that change the course of history. We continue moving forward,” he concluded.
His comments came after the European Union officially opened the first negotiation cluster with Ukraine in Luxembourg, marking a significant milestone in the country’s accession process and bringing Kyiv one step closer to eventual EU membership.
