Ukraine should receive additional military aid within weeks. President of the European Council Charles Michel spoke about this following the meeting of the European Council held on April 17. This is how he answered the question about the possible timing of fulfilling the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the supply of additional military ammunition, in particular air defense systems, FREEDOM correspondent in Europe reports.

“It’s not a matter of months, it’s a matter of days and weeks. It is very important that we keep our promises. And I can assure you that all the stakeholders, all the actors, are doing everything they can to speed up and put in more effort. You know that in a very short period of time we have increased our defense capabilities in terms of production and production capacity. But this is not enough. We need to do more and we are also committed to using all available reserves, especially in the area of air defense systems,” he said.

At the same time, Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo said that the situation in the war zone is very difficult, and he hopes that help will arrive in Ukraine within weeks.

“The situation on the battlefield is critical. And Ukraine needs more weapons and air defense systems. We had a very good discussion and all member states can do to help Ukraine is send weapons. We need to do this because the situation is very difficult. I am satisfied with today’s discussion. I think it’s a matter of weeks at best. Negotiations are currently ongoing. Everyone has to do their best,” Orpo said.
