The city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region remains under the control of the Defense Forces of Ukraine: the Russians went from offensive to defensive. Vitaliy Barabash, the head of the Avdiivka city military administration, told about it on October 16, on the air of FREEDOM TV channel.

“In two days, we can see that the number of shelling on the territory of the community has also decreased significantly. The General Staff confirms in its summaries that the number of assaults has decreased several times. Everything has blown out, really blown out… If a few days ago there were several dozen assaults, now there are 15. But it is not 50-60, as it was on October 10-11,” he said.

According to Barabash, the number of air missile strikes on the Avdiyiv community has also decreased. “The number of aircraft operating is slightly less. Over the past day, there were only 6 air-missile strikes on the community, and the maximum we had was 31. This is only on the territory of the community. In terms of positions, it is quite hot there. It cannot be said that it is calm there: battles both during the day and at night,” said Barabash.

The head of the city’s military administration stated that during the attempts to attack Avdiivka, many personnel of the Russian army died, and the defense line was in place.

“It’s hard at the front, really hard. Plus the weather conditions – winter is closer. Coldly. But the most important thing is that the boys and girls persevered. And from that side they are already reporting that they are on the defensive,” said Barabash. He also emphasized that 1,618 civilians still remain in Avdiivka, despite the fact that the escalation of hostilities has resulted in casualties among the population. “It does not make people very happy and pushes them to evacuate. They go, but not as they would like. Most likely, this pushed those people who wanted to leave due to the approach of winter to this aggravation, and they talked about it openly, that we will leave,” said Barabash.

At the same time, according to him, the situation itself greatly depresses those who remained in the city. “People don’t even look up,” said the head of the city’s military administration.
