Zelensky Votes, Says Prime Minister Should be Economist

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnky has cast his votes for parliament.

After voting, Zelensky spoke to the press about his belief that the prime minister should be a professional economist without a history in politics.

“To be honest, the people, who are now in the parliament and see themselves at the position of the prime minister, won’t be happy about what I’m going to say. I have an unwavering stance on this issue. I believe that the prime minister must be a professional economist and have no political decision. This must be a completely independent person who has never been a prime minister, a speaker or a party leader,” Zelensky said following his vote at a Kyiv polling station.

Zelensky said he already has a candidate and is holding consultations within the limits of his powers.

Today’s snap parliamentary elections began at 8 a.m. with polling stations closing at 8 p.m.
