Russia is ready to hold negotiations with Ukraine in any format but only after the formation of a new government.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said this while answering questions about his reaction to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal to hold a meeting with the participation of the leaders of Germany, France, the United States and the United Kingdom, TASS News Agency reports according to Ukrinform.
“We have never refused any of the proposed formats, including expanded talks in the Normandy format,” Putin said.
“Firstly, the meeting should be well prepared. Secondly, it will be possible only after the final formation of a new government of Ukraine and the holding of parliamentary elections. Thirdly, I don’t know about the reaction of other participants of the proposed format [to this invitation],” Putin added.
On July 8, 2019, Zelensky proposed a meeting regarding the situation in Donbas to include the United States, Great Britain, Germany and France as well as Ukraine and Russia. After the proposal was proffered, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed willingness to host any such meeting.
