European leaders will discuss possible counteractions to Russian aggression in the Azov Sea, the implementation of the Minsk agreements, and the release of political prisoners and prisoners of war at the upcoming EU-Ukraine Summit in Kyiv.
European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will be attending the July 8 summit, which will be newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s first.
Summit representatives will discuss the EU-Ukraine relationship in political and economic areas, as well as future projects and possible priorities.
“Leaders will review progress on the Ukrainian reform agenda, especially in the fight against corruption, and the EU’s support for this process. Reforms in the energy sector, in the administration and the respect of the rule of law, are also on the agenda. Leaders will discuss bilateral trade and the implementation of the deep and comprehensive free trade area (DCFTA),” a press-release said.
“At the summit, the EU will reaffirm its support for Ukraine’s’ sovereignty and territorial integrity and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The situation in the Azov Sea and additional support measures to the region are on the agenda. Leaders will also condemn the Russian measures on granting Russian citizenship to Ukrainians living in non-government controlled areas,” the press release said.
The last EU-Ukraine summit was in Brussels in July of last year.
