Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commemorated the Day of Grief and Commemoration of the Victims of War in Ukraine. He said that contemporaries should remember heroic actions of those who defended the country, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

“World War II , which broke into our home, has covered the entire territory of Ukraine. It touched every family, every human destiny. We must remember those terrible years, the feat of those who defended our country. War brings only blood, grief and suffering. We must do everything so that it does not become a familiar phenomenon of life for future generations,” Zelensky said.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said that Ukrainian authorities will do everything possible to keep history from repeating.

“We honor all the victims of that war with a minute of silence. We will do everything possible so that this will never happen again. We remember,” he said.

On this day, in 1941, Nazi Germany attacked USSR. German-Soviet War continued to May 9, 1945. Losses for Soviet Ukraine counted from 5 to 7 million, both military and civilians
