Minister of Defense and the Head of Security Service Resign

Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak asked newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to dismiss him.

“Mr. President of Ukraine – Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, I respect your constitutional right to decide the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and submit candidature for approval by the Verkhovna Rada. I ask you to consider my dismissal from the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine in the established manner,” Poltorak wrote following the inauguration.

Earlier, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Hrytsak asked Zelenskyi to dismiss him from his post, an SBU press-release reports.

“I fulfill my promise and publicly state that today I am submitting for consideration by the newly elected president of Ukraine a report on my dismissal as SBU chief. I also report that in accordance with the procedure established by the Military Statutes, respective reports on dismissal have been submitted by all deputy heads of the SBU and members of the team who stood with me side by side to defend Ukraine in the heaviest days of Russian armed aggression. We do it sincerely, fully aware of the right of the new president of Ukraine to initiate personnel changes in the management of the service,” his statement reads.
