Ukraine Gets Silver and Bronze at the Balkan Athletics Federations’ Marathon

Ukrainian athletes, Serhii Popov and Anatolii Bondarenko, won the silver and bronze medal respectively, in the Balkan Marathon Championships, held in Limassol, Cyprus, on March 18.

The marathon was held by the Balkan Athletics Federation.

Kiprugut Simon Kirui from Kenya won the 42 kilometer race in two hours, 18 minutes and 28 seconds.

Popov’s overall time was 2 hours, 34 minutes and 23 seconds.  Bondarenko’s overall time was 2 hours, 38 minutes and 59 seconds.

Kateryna Karmanenko represented Ukraine in the women’s section. Her final time of 3 hours, 4 minutes and 47 seconds was not enough to earn her a medal. She came in fifth place.

Serbian record-holder and five-time Olympian, Olivera Jevtic won the women’s marathon title. Radosveta Simeonova from Bulgaria came in second, and Olga Andrejeva from Estonia came in third.
