EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos noted that Brussels considers Ukraine and Moldova ready to open all negotiation clusters, with the pace depending on the position of member states.
As UATV English reports, she said this in comments to media.
The commissioner was asked about assessments of insufficiently fast implementation of the “Kachka-Kos plan” and what Ukraine needs to do to maintain a good pace on its path to the EU.
“As you know, the European Commission believes everything is ready to open all clusters as quickly as possible. In fact, that’s why we launched the so-called ‘frontloading’ process last year. So how quickly we can open the remaining four clusters depends on the presidency and the member states. But even if we have to wait a bit, the technical work continues,” Marta Kos noted.
She noted that Ukraine clearly knows the list of tasks it needs to complete, and will do so.
Regarding the “Kachka-Kos plan,” the commissioner noted that many of its points are part of a separate reform agenda.
“So we have a clear timeline of what to do — not just this year, but going forward. We’re closely monitoring all the points included in the ‘Fundamentals.’ And I hope that with the new Ukrainian government, we’ll get a new push for even greater results from Kyiv,” Marta Kos concluded.
As is known, the EU opened the sixth negotiation cluster with Ukraine, Commissioner Marta Kos reported on July 14.
It covers issues of common security and defense, trade, humanitarian aid, and development cooperation.
“I’m proud to say that in recent years we’ve achieved 99% alignment of Ukraine’s foreign policy with EU policy,” noted Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Lithuania’s foreign minister said the opening of the remaining clusters is being postponed until autumn.
