Ukraine is interested in cooperating with Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation on the production of Patriot interceptor missiles, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, citing the company’s experience in manufacturing the system under a U.S. licenseUATV English reports.

Speaking to journalists, Zelenskyy said Mitsubishi represents one of the strongest examples of how licensed Patriot missile production can be successfully established outside the United States.

“We know what Mitsubishi does. The company demonstrates a very high level of Patriot missile production. It is probably the strongest example today of how, after receiving an American license, a country can establish production of its own anti-ballistic capabilities,” Zelenskyy said.

The president said Kyiv would welcome Mitsubishi’s involvement in Ukraine and is interested in exchanging technological expertise, while noting that any cooperation depends on the Japanese side’s willingness to participate.

“We would be very pleased to see them in Ukraine. We would like to exchange experience, but that depends on the desire of the Japanese side,” he said.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine highly values Japan’s technological expertise and is ready to share its own defense innovations.

“We deeply respect Japan, its technologies, and its development. We are ready to share our own advances and technologies. I am confident that in many areas we will have a common vision,” the president said.

His remarks come as Ukraine continues efforts to secure licensed production of Patriot interceptor missiles and expand international cooperation on anti-ballistic air defense capabilities. Japan eased restrictions on defense exports earlier this year, opening new opportunities for cooperation with partner countries in the defense sector.
