Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss Ukraine’s EU accession process, preparations for a joint Drone Deal, and measures to strengthen the country’s energy security ahead of winter, UATV English reports, citing Zelenskyy’s Telegram.

According to Zelenskyy, the leaders focused on accelerating Ukraine’s European integration by opening the remaining accession negotiation clusters.

“We discussed Ukraine’s European integration. It is important to open the remaining negotiation clusters as soon as possible and not lose momentum on this path,” the president said.

The two sides also reviewed progress on the planned Drone Deal between Ukraine and the European Union. Zelenskyy said their teams are actively working on the initiative and discussed the next steps and a possible timeline for signing the agreement.

“Today we discussed the next steps and possible timing for signing the Drone Deal,” he said.

In addition, Zelenskyy and von der Leyen coordinated their positions ahead of upcoming international events, noting that a number of important meetings are scheduled both abroad and in Ukraine.

Energy security and preparations for the winter were another key focus of the talks. Zelenskyy said both sides share the goal of ending the war before winter but stressed that Ukraine must be prepared for any scenario.

“Everyone is interested in ending this war before winter. But regardless of how events develop, we must be ready to protect our people and ensure Ukraine’s resilience,” he said.

The Ukrainian president thanked the European Commission for its continued energy assistance, noting that all previous agreements are being implemented and that new initiatives to strengthen Europe’s energy security are also under discussion.

“I am grateful for the energy support and for the fact that all previous agreements are being fulfilled. We also have new ideas. We are working together on the energy security of the whole of Europe,” Zelenskyy said.

He thanked von der Leyen for her leadership, continued support for Ukraine, and commitment to helping the country withstand Russia’s ongoing aggression.
