Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on European partners to allocate €6.6 billion from the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support Ukraine’s defense, according to a letter seen by Reuters.
In the June 26 letter, Fedorov said Ukraine’s total defense requirements for 2026 amount to approximately €136 billion, with €53 billion expected to be covered by the state budget, UATV English reports.
He noted that Ukraine is also set to receive €28.3 billion under the EU’s €90 billion support package. However, even with that funding, a substantial share of the country’s defense needs will remain uncovered.
According to Fedorov, resources from the European Peace Facility could become “one of the most significant European contributions to Ukraine’s defense this year” if directed toward areas capable of generating “the greatest and most immediate military effect.”
During the European Council meeting on June 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged EU leaders to ensure the rapid release of more than €6 billion in European Peace Facility funding for Ukraine.
