President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he held a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is attending the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) in Gdańsk, to discuss strengthening defense cooperation and continued European support for Ukraine, UATV English reports.

Zelenskyy thanked von der Leyen for what he described as an important signal of support during the international recovery conference.

The two leaders discussed defense cooperation, measures to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience, and additional support to protect civilians from Russian attacks, including supplies for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

“It is obvious to everyone that Russia is prolonging the war and ignoring all of Ukraine’s diplomatic proposals,” Zelenskyy said. “That is why we must do everything possible to strengthen our country and protect our people.”

The president added that he and von der Leyen agreed to remain in close contact and continue their discussions in person in the near future.
