Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the defense industry during a meeting in Brussels, the Italian Ministry of Defense said on June 19.

According to the ministry, Crosetto reaffirmed Italy’s continued support for Ukraine and praised the resilience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and people, UATV English reports.

“I had an important meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who briefed me on the situation on the front line. I reaffirmed Italy’s full support and paid tribute to the heroic courage and determination of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian people in the face of the war unleashed against their country more than four years ago,” Crosetto said.

The ministers agreed to explore opportunities for industrial cooperation in the defense sector, drawing on Ukraine’s combat experience and innovative operational capabilities.

According to the Italian Defense Ministry, such cooperation could contribute to strengthening Europe’s collective security.

“Hopefully, current developments will pave the way to a lasting ceasefire that will lead to a just and durable peace with appropriate security guarantees for Ukraine,” Crosetto said.

The meeting comes as Kyiv intensifies efforts to deepen defense-industrial ties with European partners.

Earlier, Fedorov held talks with senior European Union officials in Brussels on financing Ukraine’s key defense priorities and discussed expanded defense cooperation with Canada. Ukraine and Germany also signed an agreement paving the way for the joint development of a new air defense system designed to intercept ballistic missiles.
