Russian President Vladimir Putin has no genuine interest in ending the war and is afraid of the consequences that the return of Russian soldiers could bring for his regime, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists.
According to Zelenskyy, Putin’s statements about seeking peace do not reflect reality, UATV English reports.
“The statements made by Putin about his desire for peace do not correspond to reality,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelenskyy argued that the Kremlin leader has little incentive to end the war and fears the domestic repercussions of bringing Russian troops back home.
The president also said that Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union has become irreversible following the opening of the first negotiating cluster.
“After the opening of the first negotiating cluster, this process can no longer be stopped,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that Ukraine’s partners had reaffirmed their long-term support, including commitments to strengthen the country’s air defenses and continue financing its armed forces.
According to Zelenskyy, European countries have also backed Kyiv’s initiative to develop ballistic capabilities, reflecting growing support for Ukraine’s domestic defense industry and long-range deterrence.
The remarks came amid a series of commitments announced by Ukraine’s partners at the Ramstein-format meeting and the European Council summit, including additional air defense assistance and support for joint missile development projects.
