The United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war, and the document has already entered into force. According to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing U.S. officials, the agreement was signed remotely on Wednesday and is already in effect, UATV English reports, citing CNN.

“Two U.S. officials told me that on Wednesday the United States and Iran remotely signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war, and it has already entered into force,” Ravid wrote.

U.S. President Donald Trump personally signed a copy of the agreement during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles. A photograph of the signed document was reportedly sent to the Iranian side and mediating countries.

Several hours earlier, the United States officially released the text of the memorandum, which formalizes a ceasefire and launches a new phase of negotiations. The document includes a commitment by both sides to hold additional talks over the next 60 days in order to reach a final settlement.

The memorandum provides for:

  • An immediate end to hostilities;
  • The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping;
  • A U.S. commitment not to impose new sanctions during the negotiation period;
  • Further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and broader normalization measures.

The White House later released video footage showing Trump signing the document in the presence of Macron.

“It’s signed. Signed in Versailles. I just signed it,” Trump said.

At the same time, the U.S. president warned that military strikes could resume if Iran fails to fulfill its obligations under the agreement.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed the signing and stated that the memorandum between Iran and the United States had been “officially finalized.”

A photograph released by the Iranian state news agency IRNA showed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian holding the document, which appeared to contain the signatures of both Pezeshkian and Trump.

The agreement was originally expected to be formally signed during a ceremony in Switzerland on June 19, but the parties completed the process earlier through remote signatures.

The United States has released the text of a document formalizing an agreement on a cessation of hostilities and future negotiations with Iran.

According to UATV English, this was reported by CNN.

“The United States on Wednesday released the official text of the memorandum of understanding reached over the weekend with Iran,” the report said.

The document, titled the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding Between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” was published following criticism that its contents had not been made public.

A senior U.S. administration official read out the 14-point document, which outlines provisions for restoring access to the Strait of Hormuz, easing certain financial restrictions on Iran, and setting expectations for addressing Iran’s nuclear program during upcoming technical negotiations.

“This is fundamentally an agreement that allows us to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately, commit the Iranians to destroying the nuclear dust, and then gives us a dial where if the Iranians dial up their good behavior, we respond by dialing up the kind of economic and sanctions relief that can make them a more prosperous country,” the senior U.S. official said.

The memorandum states that the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran commit to respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to refraining from interference in each other’s internal affairs.

Under the document, the United States pledges to begin lifting its maritime blockade of Iran immediately after the memorandum is signed and to fully remove it within 30 days. Washington also commits to withdrawing forces from Iran’s borders within 30 days of a final agreement.

The memorandum is scheduled to be formally signed on Friday, triggering a 60-day period of negotiations on the final terms of a peace agreement.

As reported earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding with Iran is not final and that he could resume bombing operations if he is dissatisfied with the agreement.
