Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi held a phone conversation with Romania’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, to discuss security in the Black Sea region and coordination in response to threats stemming from Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
According to Syrskyi, the two military leaders focused on monitoring the regional security environment, exchanging information, and strengthening cooperation between their armed forces, UATV English reports.
They stressed the importance of maintaining constant dialogue and coordination to ensure a timely response to threats in the Black Sea region.
Syrskyi also briefed his Romanian counterpart on the current operational situation on the front line.
He noted that Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue to effectively employ deep-strike and medium-range strike capabilities to reduce Russia’s offensive potential, including its ability to launch large-scale missile and air attacks against Ukraine.
At the same time, Syrskyi warned that Russia continues to conduct aerial strikes close to the borders of NATO member states, deliberately creating additional risks to regional security.
As an example, he cited an incident in which a Russian attack drone struck a ten-story residential building in the Romanian city of Galați, describing it as further evidence of the Kremlin’s disregard for international law and civilian safety.
“These actions demonstrate Russia’s readiness to continue destabilizing the security situation in the region,” Syrskyi said.
The Ukrainian commander also highlighted Romania’s military assistance to Ukraine, including contributions to the PURL and SAFE programs, and thanked General Vlad, the Romanian government, and the Romanian people for their steadfast support.
“Only through joint efforts will we be able to effectively counter threats and ensure security in Ukraine and Europe,” Syrskyi said.
The conversation came amid continued efforts by Ukraine and its allies to strengthen security cooperation in the Black Sea region as Russia intensifies its missile and drone attacks.
