Zelenskyy: Main Goal at the G7 Summit Is to Strengthen Air Defense and Push Russia Toward Diplomacy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the meetings taking place today in Évian, France, during the G7 Summit as substantive and said that the key objective is to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and push Russia toward diplomacy.

The head of state announced this on Telegram, UATV English reports.

“Meetings at the G7 Summit in France have already begun in a meaningful way. Emmanuel, Mr. President, thank you! The schedule for the day is serious. The main goal is to strengthen air defense for Ukraine and push diplomacy so that Russia ends its war. Peace is needed,” Zelenskyy said.

Earlier, Suspilne reported that a meeting between G7 leaders and President Zelenskyy had already concluded on the sidelines of the summit. The discussion focused on ensuring peace and security for Ukraine and Europe and lasted for an hour and a half.

Presidential spokesperson Serhii Nykyforov said that Zelenskyy is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings throughout the day with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

As previously reported, the G7 Summit began on Monday, June 15, in the French city of Évian-les-Bains. The central Ukraine-related event of the summit is a working meeting involving President Zelenskyy focused on peace and security for Ukraine and Europe.
