Ukraine’s Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has identified the type of Russian drone used to attack the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra during the night of June 15, UATV English reports, citing the agency’s press service.
According to the SSU, Russian forces struck the monastery complex with a Geran-2 drone, the Russian version of the Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drone.
The drone hit the St. Stephen’s Chapel of the Dormition Cathedral at approximately 1:50 a.m. during the massive attack on Kyiv. Investigators recovered fragments of the drone’s fuselage and engine at the scene.
The strike damaged the cathedral’s roofing structures, domes, walls, and windows.
The SSU said that some of the drone’s components were manufactured in Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone. Markings found on the recovered fragments indicate the drone was assembled there.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra following the attack and stated that all damaged sites would be restored.
