Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone said that the Alliance will continue to support Ukraine until the moment when the parties are able to sit down at the negotiating table, UATV English informed.

He said this in an interview with the BBC.

According to Cavo Dragone, NATO “will support Ukraine until the day when we can sit at the table to achieve a lasting peace.”

He added that from an operational point of view, Russia’s war against Ukraine has reached a deadlock, so “it is almost time to sit down at the negotiating table, because we are talking about a pointless loss of life.”

At the same time, the head of NATO’s Military Committee called the war a strategic defeat for the Kremlin’s ruler Vladimir Putin, despite the slow advances of Russian forces on the battlefield in recent weeks.

“They will not get a friendly or puppet government (in Ukraine – Ed.) like in Belarus. Putin will not succeed,” Cavo Dragone said.

When asked whether European countries are ready to continue supporting Ukraine’s defense, the admiral answered in the affirmative. He said it was useful that Europe had received a kind of wake-up call and is now taking responsibility for its own defense.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Russia has still not demonstrated a serious attitude toward negotiations with Ukraine.
