Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the allocation of the first military aid packages under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.
This was announced at a briefing by Ukrainian MFA spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi, reports Ukrinform.
Key points:
— Ukraine awaits official confirmation from the US.
“We have seen media reports that the first packages under the PURL program have been allocated. We welcome this and, of course, await official information,” Tykhyi said.
— The PURL mechanism is working and extremely important.
“Ukraine’s needs during the war are high and will remain high. We expect our partner countries to continue contributing to PURL. This is extremely important. President Zelensky is personally monitoring this to ensure the PURL budget continues to grow,” the diplomat added.
— The cooperation is mutually beneficial for Ukraine, European partners, and the US.
“Kyiv considers this mutually beneficial cooperation, as Washington provides high-quality weapons and receives funding in return,” Tykhyi emphasized.
Context:
The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative focuses on supplying Ukraine with weapons from a priority list. NATO countries can fund US arms deliveries through voluntary contributions.
So far, 11 countries have joined the program, and as of September 6, $2 billion had been collected. President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Ukraine is working to increase funding for the program.
