Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States is open to ‘almost any mechanism’ to achieve peace in Ukraine.
He said this before the start of an informal meeting of NATO ministers in Antalya on Thursday
Rubio noted that these days the main focus is on what is happening for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
‘We’ll see what happens in that regard in the coming days, but we want to see progress in that direction, and any mechanism that is proposed, any process that needs to be undertaken, we are ready to be constructive and help in any way we can to end the conflict,’ the US Secretary of State said.
He added that there is no military ‘solution to the conflict’ between Russia and Ukraine.
“This war will end not militarily, but diplomatically. And the sooner an agreement is reached to end the war, the fewer people will die and the less destruction there will be. And that is ultimately the goal of the president (Trump),” Rubio said.
As a reminder, on 14 May, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the list of Russian representatives to participate in the talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on 15 May, which he did not join.
Following the Kremlin’s decision, US President Donald Trump will not go to Turkey either, although he had previously said he was ‘considering’ a visit if Putin went there.

And the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said that if Putin refuses to hold talks in Turkey, it will be the last signal of Russia’s unwillingness to end the war.
