During the night of June 2, Russia carried out a massive combined attack against Ukraine using attack drones as well as air-, sea-, and ground-launched missiles. The main target was Kyiv, while Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava Oblast and other regions were also attacked, UATV English reports, citing the Ukrainian Air Force.
The large-scale strike on Kyiv killed four people and injured at least 65 others, including two children. Residential buildings caught fire and urban infrastructure sustained significant damage.
Damage was recorded in seven districts of the Ukrainian capital.
“Today has been a very difficult morning for Kyiv. The attacks began as early as 8 p.m. the previous day. The occupiers repeatedly attacked the city with both drones and ballistic missiles,” FREEДOM correspondent Andrii Dmytrenko reported.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least 58 residents were injured and four people were killed.
Emergency services are continuing to work at all affected sites, dealing with the consequences of the attack while residents recover from another night of Russian terror.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, radar systems detected 729 enemy aerial attack assets: 73 missiles and 656 drones of various types, including:
- Eight 3M22 Zircon missiles launched from occupied Crimea and Russia’s Kursk region;
- 33 Iskander-M ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Bryansk, Kursk, and Rostov regions, as well as occupied Crimea;
- 27 Kh-101 cruise missiles launched from Russia’s Vologda region;
- Five Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Caspian Sea;
- 656 drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, Banderol loitering munitions, and Parodiya decoy UAVs.
The drones were launched from the areas of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as occupied Crimea.
Ukrainian air defenses reportedly shot down or suppressed 642 aerial targets:
- 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
- 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- Three Kalibr cruise missiles;
- 602 drones of various types.
According to preliminary information, 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and 33 attack drones struck 38 locations. Debris from intercepted drones fell at 15 additional sites.
The attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, air defense missile units, electronic warfare forces, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups.
Earlier, six people, including a firefighter, were reported killed and another 36 injured in overnight Russian attacks on Dnipro and the surrounding region.
