Ukraine, together with partners worldwide, is working on security guarantees to ensure that future generations of Ukrainians will not have to experience war.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized this during the VIII International Veteran Forum “Ukraine. Veterans. Security” in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

“Our task now is to make sure that our children, our grandchildren, the next generations of Ukrainians do not have to go through war. The key to this is the system of security guarantees that we are currently developing together with our partners. Today here is Mark (NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte), a great friend of Ukraine. Together with him, with other European leaders, with the United States, and with a coalition of more than 30 partner countries, we are preparing such vital security guarantees for Ukraine. I am confident that they will be based first of all on our strong army — and therefore, on your experience and the experience of your comrades,” Zelenskyy said.

The President underlined that Russia’s war against Ukraine, which began in 2014, has already lasted longer than World War II.

According to him, “No one yet knows when this war for Ukraine’s independence will end.” He stressed that the government is doing everything possible to bring the war to a just conclusion.

“The main thing is that it ends with real security for our children and grandchildren — but also ends fairly. This is crucial out of respect for Ukraine, for Ukrainians, for all of you, for our warriors, for our veterans,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President also noted that Ukraine has defended its independence and united the whole of Europe and many other countries of the world.

Zelenskyy thanked NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and his team for participating in the veteran forum.

Earlier, the President stated that Ukraine’s security guarantees must be equivalent to NATO’s Article 5 and include, among other things, long-term financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
