President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine’s strategy of conducting long-range strikes against Russian military and economic targets is designed to make the continued occupation of Ukrainian territory increasingly costly and ultimately unsustainable for Russia, UATV English reports.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is combining military operations with diplomatic efforts to create the conditions necessary for a just and lasting peace.
“I am grateful to every partner who is working with us in the diplomatic process and considering how to compel Russia to finally move toward an agreement. We must end this war with dignity—we must end it with a real peace,” the president said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine continues to achieve daily results through what he described as its “long-range sanctions” and “medium-range sanctions” strategy, referring to precision strikes against military, logistical, and economic targets supporting Russia’s war effort.
He emphasized that these operations are intended to undermine Russia’s ability to sustain its occupation rather than target civilians.
“Every day we are delivering results through our long-range and medium-range sanctions against Russia. It is important that our people in Crimea and in other temporarily occupied parts of Ukraine understand that our goal is to make the continuation of the occupation as unbearable as possible for the occupier. That is exactly what we are doing,” Zelenskyy said.
The president also highlighted Ukraine’s ongoing campaign against Russia’s energy sector, particularly oil infrastructure that generates significant revenue for the Russian state.
“I would also like to highlight our operations against the Russian oil industry. Despite attempts to claim otherwise, this sector is still far from stabilization. This war must end, and only then can there be a return to normality,” he said.
Ukraine has increasingly targeted oil refineries, fuel depots, logistics hubs, military airfields, and other strategic facilities deep inside Russian territory as part of its effort to reduce Moscow’s capacity to finance and sustain military operations.
According to Ukrainian officials, these strikes are designed to complement international sanctions by directly disrupting critical elements of Russia’s wartime economy and military logistics.
As of early July 2026, Ukrainian Defense Forces had reportedly disabled approximately 42.74% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity through a sustained campaign of long-range strikes against refinery infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials argue that increasing economic and military pressure on Russia is an essential component of any strategy aimed at forcing the Kremlin toward meaningful negotiations while reducing its ability to continue the war.
