President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he has approved the text of a draft law aimed at ensuring the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption infrastructure. The bill will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada today.

According to Ukrinform, Zelenskyy made the announcement on Telegram.

“I have just approved the text of a draft law that guarantees the real strengthening of Ukraine’s law enforcement system, the independence of anti-corruption bodies, and reliable protection of the system from any Russian influence or interference. The text is balanced,” Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that the most important aspects are real instruments, no Russian ties, and the independence of NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau) and SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office).

“It is important that we maintain unity. It is important that we preserve independence. It is important that we respect the position of all Ukrainians and are grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law (No. 12414) that reduced the powers of NABU and SAPO. That same day, President Zelenskyy signed it into law.

In response, members of parliament began collecting signatures and preparing a submission to the Constitutional Court to challenge the law.

On July 23, Zelenskyy stated that he would propose a new draft law to parliament containing all the necessary provisions to ensure the independence of anti-corruption institutions.
