Volodymyr Zelenskyy said following a call with French President Emmanuel Macron that France is ready to cooperate with Ukraine in the field of anti-ballistic defense.

According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid continued Russian missile and drone attacks, UATV English reports.

“I thanked Emmanuel for his principled condemnation of Russian strikes against our cities and communities,” Zelenskyy said. “These attacks clearly demonstrate what Russia is and why we all need to strengthen our collective defense against every threat.”

The Ukrainian president noted that France is prepared to work with Ukraine specifically on countering ballistic weapons.

“This is a strong decision and an important step,” Zelenskyy stated. “We also discussed strengthening our capabilities to repel Russian attacks already now. Thank you for the readiness to reinforce our air defense.”

The leaders also discussed Ukraine’s European integration efforts, including the opening of all EU negotiation clusters in the near future.

“France supports Ukraine and understands how important this step is for all Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy added.

Macron also briefed the Ukrainian president on his recent visit to African countries. According to Zelenskyy, the two sides agreed on the importance of closer coordination in Africa, calling the region strategically important for Ukraine as well.

The leaders agreed to maintain close contact in the coming weeks.
