Ukraine’s MFA urgent message on countering threats of Russian invasion

“Due to recent decisions of the President, Parliament and Government, as well as the assistance of key partners, Ukraine has further strengthened its capacity to protect the security of the state and citizens.

The comprehensive package of measures to deter Russia, that Ukraine proposed to its partners in November 2021, has become an effective tool for countering the Kremlin’s aggressive policies. Ukraine has now a strong position, including due to coordinated diplomatic contacts at all levels, the conclusion of preparation by the US and the EU of the tough economic sanctions, arms supplies, and macro-financial assistance,” reads the message.

Right now it is critical to remain calm, stay united and consolidated within the country, and refrain from actions that undermine stability and sow panic. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are constantly monitoring the developments and are ready to repel any attack on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, MFA underlines.

Earlier today, US reported about suspending consular services in Ukraine, withdrawing part of diplomats.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has announced that it is evacuating the families of its diplomats from Ukraine. At the same time, Latvia, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Montenegro, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States called on their citizens to “leave Ukraine immediately.”

As reported yesterday, new Russian border deployments were detected by satellite. Find more details and photos here.
On February 10, large-scale exercises of the Russian and Belarusian armies with the use of heavy military equipment began in Belarus. Ukraine’s Western partners fear that Russia could use these exercises as a pretext to attack Ukraine. The drills are expected to end on February 20. Russia has repeatedly denied any plans to invade Ukraine despite massing more than 100,000 troops at the border.
