William Burns, CIA Director, predicts “a dire picture” on the battlefield in Ukraine if Congress doesn’t approve military aid for Ukraine in the nearest future.

That’s according to Politico.

“There is a very real risk that the Ukrainians could lose on the battlefield by the end of 2024, or at least put Putin in a position where he could essentially dictate the terms of a political settlement,” warns William Burns in a comment for Politico.

He is, however, convinced that with the support from the US Ukraine will be capable of “holding their own through 2024 and puncturing Putin’s arrogant view that time is on his side”. He emphasized that the US military “boost” will also have a psychological effect on the Ukrainians.

He added that supporting Ukraine wasn’t only about Ukraine, but “about Xi Jinping in China, his ambitions”.

Politico has described Burn’s opinion as “the strongest warning from a senior administration official yet regarding the war”, which amplifies all the warnings from Ukrainian officials and world leaders voiced over the last weeks.

Earlier, House Speaker Mike Johnson admitted that providing lethal aid to Ukraine was critically important after blocking the Ukraine aid in the House for months.

He eventually decided to put military aid for Ukraine on the floor, the Ukraine bill aid will be voted on April 19.
