The United Kingdom reaffirmed its resolute support for Ukraine at the United Nations, emphasizing that this position will remain firm in the future. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy delivered the statement at the UN General Assembly, reports Ukrinform.
“Our message to Ukraine is clear: we will stand with you today, tomorrow, and in 100 years,” Lammy said.
He stressed that the UK supports Ukraine to protect the core values of the UN Charter — sovereignty, territorial integrity, and respect for international law — and because the world suffers if aggression goes unpunished.
Lammy called on UN member states to contribute to a just and lasting peace that preserves the integrity of the UN Charter and ensures Ukraine emerges from Russia’s brutal war as a sovereign, secure, and independent state.
He noted that President Zelenskyy continually demonstrates commitment to peace, while Putin continues to launch more missiles and drones against Ukrainians.
The deputy prime minister also highlighted the need for UN reform to make the organization capable of addressing global challenges.
Earlier this week, the UK warned at the UN that Russia’s escalation could lead to direct confrontation with NATO.
