The United States has reminded Russia of the 50-day deadline to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine, issued by President Trump on July 14, warning of “further measures” if Moscow fails to comply. Washington also accused China of lying about its support for Russia’s war effort.
This was stated on Friday at the UN Security Council by Acting U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dorothy Shea, Ukrinform reports.
“On July 14, the President of the United States warned President Putin of the need to conclude a peace deal within 50 days. If Russia does not agree to halt its attacks within this period, the United States is prepared to take further action,” Shea said.
She recalled that more than 100 days ago, the UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for an immediate end to the war and a durable peace in Ukraine. While this helped initiate negotiations in Saudi Arabia and Istanbul, progress has been “far from sufficient.”
“Russia continues to kill Ukrainian civilians. Russian drones and missiles strike schools, playgrounds, apartment blocks, and nursing homes. Russia has deployed thousands of North Korean troops to the front lines and sent tens of thousands of its own soldiers to die in battle,” Shea stated.
The ambassador also pointed to China’s ongoing export of dual-use goods to Russia, which are fueling Moscow’s military industry and enabling attacks on Ukrainian cities.
“Beijing’s claim that it enforces strict export controls on dual-use goods collapses in the face of daily discoveries of Chinese-made components in drones, weapons, and vehicles used by Russia against Ukraine,” Shea emphasized.
