Russian forces have stepped up their assault on Kharkiv region’s Kupiansk district, sustaining heavy losses in the process, while enemy drones continue to strain Ukrainian logistics on the eastern bank of the Oskil River, according to Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Task Force, speaking on television, as reported by UATV English.
“The situation in Kupiansk is challenging because the enemy has significantly intensified its attacks… As for the Kupiansk district, we divide it into two parts along the Oskil River. East of the Oskil, the Russians are actively breaking through near Kivsharivka and advancing toward Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, attempting to cut off the Ukrainian bridgehead east of the river. They are facing significant resistance and suffering heavy losses there, but they are not really being stopped,” Tregubov said.
He added that the situation has also deteriorated west of the river, in the city of Kupiansk itself, where Russian forces have ramped up efforts to push in from the north and establish a foothold in the city’s northern districts. “The enemy is being eliminated in large numbers there, but they are actively increasing the pressure, throwing into battle the reserves they accumulated over the summer,” Tregubov emphasized.
He noted that Ukrainian logistics on the eastern bank of the Oskil River are being complicated by Russian drone operators and continuous attacks, though he characterized Ukraine’s overall logistics situation as better than the enemy’s, with only some pockets proving particularly difficult.
Tregubov also said it remains unclear whether Russia will have the capacity to mobilize additional soldiers following the fall elections. “We don’t even know what state Russia will be in going into these elections, because long-range strikes are being carried out, which are affecting the Russian economy and public sentiment,” he said.
As previously reported, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are working to prevent Russian troops from gaining a foothold in Kupiansk and establishing a bridgehead in Lyman.
