Russia is hampered by resistance in organizing a pseudo-referendum in the occupied territories of Ukraine, – Oreshkin

Ukrainian resistance hinders Kremlin in organizing a pseudo-referendum in occupied territories of Ukraine. This was announced on the FREEDOM TV channel by Russian political scientist Dmitry Oreshkin.

Ukrainian resistance prevents the Russians from pursuing this policy. Because preparing a referendum, even the most fake, the most formal, is a lot of organizational work,” – the political scientist said.

Oreshkin is convinced that the Russian occupiers will not be able to quickly and easily create a network of “election commissions” because local residents do not cooperate:

“You can’t make them out of some political activists, soldiers or secret police who came from Russia. Still, local people are needed, but they are in no hurry to go to these commissions. It is quite clear why this is happening,” – Oreshkin added.

In addition, the occupying authorities will not be able to ensure the security of these “commissions”:

“This referendum is just an unsuccessful task. Putin is using this referendum to convince himself and his supporters in Russia. However, this is not working as a signal for the Russian elites. They understand just such a material answer – “if they don’t come out with a referendum, then things are bad.” Everyone understands this. And the fact that the referendum is being postponed is a sign of a big failure,” – Oreshkin said.

At the same time, he believes that the Kremlin cannot abandon the idea of a pseudo-referendum, because this would mean a loss for Russia:

“Accordingly, attempts to hold a referendum will continue. It will be postponed, modified, new ideas will be introduced. However, the Kremlin will not give up trying to implement this policy in the occupied territories”, – the Russian political scientist is convinced.

As previously reported, Russia has threatened to hold pseudo-referenda for several months in the occupied territories of Ukraine. There are parts of Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions. However, their dates constantly change, and the invaders fail to organize an “election commission”. The main reason for this is the active partisan movement and the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
