At least 35 people were killed and more than 40 injured in Damascus, Syria, as a result of rocket fire on a city market, Deutsche Welle reported.

The rocket fire in the Kashkol neighborhood has been blamed on rebels. It marked one of the highest death tolls in a single attack targeting the government-held capital.

On Feb. 18, 2018, the Syrian government forces pressed an offensive against the rebels in Eastern Ghouta. Since then, nearly 1,400 civilians died in the area, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. At least 45,000 people have fled the area.

Earlier, Britain and the United States called Russia responsible for the bloodshed in Syria.
