Postwar recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector creates unique opportunities for U.S. and Ukrainian industrialists

Joint projects of Ukraine and the United States to restore the energy sector on the principles of sustainability will strengthen the competitiveness of the industry of both countries.

This was emphasized by Deputy Minister of Energy for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov during a conference with U.S. industrialists on the reconstruction of Ukraine. The event was attended by representatives of Microsoft, Boeing, Cargill, General Electric, Coca-Cola, Siemens, U.S. Steel and others.

Yaroslav Demchenkov addressed the largest U.S. association of manufacturers (National Association of Manufacturers), representing 14,000 companies, and called for participation in planning the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector, which is currently under systematic shelling by russian occupiers.

“The energy transition, which will be accelerated after our victory, is an opportunity for industrialists in the United States, Ukraine and European countries to increase their production capacity. Investments in Ukraine’s energy transition projects are also investments in strengthening the continent’s energy security. We invite American business to come to Ukraine, and together we will find projects to introduce innovative solutions in the energy sector,” said Yaroslav Demchenkov.

The Deputy Minister also focused on the plans for the post-war recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector. According to him, Ukraine will invest in the development of renewable energy sources, nuclear energy, decentralization projects, and strengthening the resilience of the energy system.

“Partners should focus on developing technologies and building production facilities for the energy of the future in Ukraine and allied countries. In the course of the green energy transition, our goal is to unlock the energy potential of the regions and strengthen their energy resilience. This will become one of the best investments in the reconstruction of Ukraine,” said Yaroslav Demchenkov emphasizing that for the green transition to be successful, it is important to develop new professional skills among specialists and open up opportunities for local companies to implement joint projects.

The official also emphasized that one of the key conditions for an accelerated green transition was the full integration of the energy markets of Ukraine and the EU.

Yaroslav Demchenkov appealed to the audience to support the prompt restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector, which is currently under systematic shelling by the russian occupiers.

“The supply of high-voltage transformers is a top priority for Ukraine today. However, the list of needs is much wider,” said the Deputy Minister of Energy. “The production of new equipment takes time. That is why we are asking our partners to check their warehouses for ready-made equipment or previously used equipment that can be sent to Ukraine as soon as possible.”

Yaroslav Demchenkov urged the conference participants to participate in the prompt reconstruction and repair work through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund acting within the Energy Community: “The transparent operation of the Fund, in what the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Energy Security Project deals with the procurement, allows companies from all over the world to offer their services and equipment to Ukraine.”
