Only sanctions will not help return Crimea – Kuleba

Ukraine will not be able to return Crimea employing only sanctions policy, because sanctions are an element of grand strategy to return the temporarily occupied territories.

UA reports this with reference to News of Ukraine and the World periodical.

“There are 2 problems with sanctions that the Crimean Platform will work on after the summit is over” – Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview.

“The first problem is gaps in the current sanctions regime, when it is possible for someone to supply something to Crimea from what should not be supplied there. The second problem is the strengthening of sanctions. Countries are not ready to take on clear commitments immediately. But there is a complete understanding that it is necessary to close the gaps, and one needs to be ready to strengthen sanctions. Therefore, sanctions are an important element, but not the only one”.

As of August 19, the number of confirmed participants in the Crimean Platform summit increased to 44.
