Oleg Antonov State Aviation Museum Makes List of Top 20 Aviation Museums Worldwide

In its list of the 20 aviation museums worldwide, the American based news organization CNN included the Oleg Antonov State Aviation Museum in Kyiv, Ukraine on its list. The list, in no particular order, also includes museums from the United States, Australia, Poland and China, among others.

The Oleg Antonov State Aviation Museum is operated by the National Aviation University. Most of the aircraft on display are from Soviet vintage including the Tu-104 built by the Tupolev company. The Tu-104 was the world’s first passenger jet airplane.

Professor Felix Yanovsky, head of electronics at the National Aviation University, had this to say about the plane according the CNN article:

“On September 15, 1956, a very important event for civil aviation occurred. The world’s first jet airliner, the Tupolev-104, made its first passenger flight between Moscow and Irkutsk. This plane is now in the State Aviation Museum of Ukraine, and it’s the oldest surviving aircraft of this type.”

The museum is located on the grounds of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) in the southwest of Kyiv.
