Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs has urged European countries to prioritize strength over diplomacy in dealing with Russia, arguing that now is not the time to seek a peace agreement with Moscow.

Speaking to Euractiv, Kulbergs said he does not believe a negotiated settlement with Russia is possible at this stage and stressed that Europe must remain united in confronting the security threat on its eastern flank, UATV English reports.

“I don’t believe in peace agreements, at least not now,” Kulbergs said. “We need a common approach—only then will there be no absurd ideas. Above all, we must trust ourselves. We must demonstrate strength.”

According to the Latvian prime minister, Europe’s priority should be ensuring there are no weak links along its eastern border while maintaining a unified position toward Russia.

Earlier, Latvia announced it would maintain enhanced security measures along its border with Russia, citing persistent security risks and continued attempts at illegal border crossings.
