Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has confirmed that Norway is interested in joining the EU’s “Drone Wall” initiative, emphasizing that Ukraine’s battlefield experience is crucial for strengthening European security.

Speaking on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit in Copenhagen, Støre said:

“Yes, we are in contact with the Commission to be part of this initiative.”

Although not an EU member, Norway sees great value in close cooperation with European partners, particularly in countering hybrid threats, including those posed by drones.

“You see the role they play in the war in Ukraine. You see how they create hybrid uncertainty in countries across Europe,” the Prime Minister noted.

Støre underlined that Norway and other nations are learning from Ukraine how to resist external aggression and hybrid attacks, calling Kyiv’s experience “invaluable” for Europe as a whole.

When asked about Norway’s support for Ukraine, he reminded that Oslo is among Kyiv’s largest donors:

“This year we are providing about 8 billion dollars, and the same amount in 2026.”

The Drone Wall, initiated by the EU with Ukraine’s participation, is part of a broader defense effort known as the “Eastern Flank Watch”, which will also include a “land wall” and a “sea wall.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged all European nations to join the project, warning that if Russia can attack Poland or northern countries, it poses a threat to the rest of Europe as well.
