“Home-Cooked Food” Now Available to Ukrainian Soliders Daily

The meals being served in the Ukrainian military are now more nutritious and delicious.

The rations even include fruits and chocolate.

“We get different fruits that we didn’t used to get. The guys are happy. They provide us with more meat than before,” solidier Svitlana said.

The Ukrainian military has switched to NATO standards when it comes to food. The military gets seven different types of rations per week. A soldier must receive no less than four thousand kilocalories daily.

“Now we count not grams, but kilocalories per person. The rations have improved drastically. Now we have yogurts, different juices, and  tangerines! They remind us of New Year’s Eve, when we used to buy them for holiday time, and New Year’s will soon be upon us, so the tangerines are symbolic,” serviceman Mykhaylo said.

Salads, soups, stews and roasted vegetables are also part of a rotating menu.

“In the past we used to get canned fish instead, some sardines, or goby fish in tomato sause,” servicewoman Tetiana said.

Another new addition to the rations are desserts. In the afternoons, soldiers can now have tea with waffles and cookies.
