Russian dictator’s reckless actions bring the world closer to nuclear escalation than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Rishi Sunak said this during a press conference on future dangers facing the UK on May 13.

“Putin’s recklessness has brought us closer to a dangerous nuclear escalation than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis,’ Sunak stated.

Sunak hopes other countries will match the UK’s defence spending because it’s essential to invest in collective security in these dangerous times, while inability to do so only “emboldens adversaries” and “doesn’t demonstrate leadership”.

“Russia’s economy has mobilized for war, he [Putin] is continuing to be aggressive. We need to meet that agression with strength, an allied strength. And not to comment on individual conversations, but with actions,” the UK Prime Minister noted.

Earlier, in April, Rishi Sunak announced that the UK will increase defence spending to 2.5% of national income by 2030.

“Our NATO allies in Eastern Europe are already worried about the prospect – if Putin is able to succeed- that they will be next with all the consequences that would bring,” Rishi Sunak added.

British PM also noted he is proud that the UK has led when it comes to Ukraine and reiterated that it is the right thing to do as an investment in Ukraine’s security is an investment in our security.

On May 7, Vladimir Putin ordered tactical nuclear weapons drills in Russia to respond “Western threats”.
