French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the appearance of Russian military aircraft in Estonian airspace, calling it “a new stage in Moscow’s provocations,” Ukrinform reports.

“I strongly condemn the intrusion of Russian aircraft into Estonia. It marks a new stage in a series of Russia’s provocative and irresponsible actions,” Macron wrote on X, adding that security measures will follow in response to these repeated violations.

The French Foreign Ministry likewise denounced the “dangerous and irresponsible intrusion into the airspace of a European Union member and NATO ally,” calling it a “gross violation of international law.”

According to the ministry, this breach of Estonian airspace is unprecedented in more than 20 years.

France has been directly contributing to Estonia’s security since 2017, deploying a French battalion that is currently taking part in multinational exercises alongside NATO allies to protect European territory.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has already contacted Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal to discuss the incident, while Estonia has requested NATO consultations under Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
