Macron and Modi Agree to Work Together for Peace in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron said he spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the two leaders agreed to promote the achievement of a just and lasting peace.

Macron wrote on X:

“We aligned our positions on the war in Ukraine to move toward a fair and lasting peace with strong security guarantees for Ukraine and Europe.”

He also highlighted that France and India agreed to strengthen economic exchanges and their strategic partnership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also confirmed on X that he had a very positive conversation with “his friend” Macron:

“We exchanged views on efforts to peacefully resolve conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. We confirmed our commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and France.”

Earlier, on August 19, Macron said the following two weeks would be “critically important” for defining security guarantees for Ukraine.
